Four years ago the Mercedes-AMG GT rolled onto the stage in Affalterbach in a dazzling show of lights, glitz and glamour, exciting AMG fans and afficionados worldwide. Since then, it has proved to be a formidable opponent on the world stage, conquering a large part of the sports car market.

For 2019 the Mercedes-AMG GT returns revised with advanced technology and explosive power, with the new limited edition track focused AMG GT R PRO re-igniting that inner burning passion and desire secretly held by BMW M and Audi RS fans.

Interior

The AMG GT interior has received some technology upgrades with some filtered down from the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé revealed earlier this year. A new AMG Performance steering wheel including innovative display buttons on the centre console and a fully digital instrument display with exclusive AMG “Supersport” display style on the instrument cluster.

Performance

The two-door AMG GT Coupé and Roadster models will be fitted with the AMG DYNAMICS package, Mercedes’ integrated driving dynamics control system for added agility. The racetrack focused limited edition AMG GT R PRO is further optimised with a new suspension, aerodynamic fine-tuning for added downforce overall, lightweight-design bucket seats and lightweight-design wheels reducing overall weight for faster lap times.

“No other production model of Mercedes-AMG presently is as close to motor racing as the new AMG GT R PRO. The agile responses to all driver commands and the overall performance now deliver even more of that incomparable feeling that our racing drivers experience on the track” – Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

As in the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, driver information including the g-force display is fed to the driver via a high resolution 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster fitted as standard. A supporting 10.25-inch multimedia display adorns the stylised V8 design centre console providing visual display of multimedia functions. Both displays can either be controlled from the left and right integrated thumb Touch Control buttons on the new AMG performance steering wheel, by voice or from the centre console using the display buttons and new touch controller with haptic feedback.

Racing pedigree at your fingertips

Positioned below the right-hand steering wheel spoke on the new AMG performance steering wheel, the new AMG DYNAMIC SELECT is intuitively located and driver focused. The circular controller, a sort of pièce de résistance on the newly designed flat bottom sports wheel consists of a multi-colour LCD display to show the chosen drive mode and is surrounded by the selector dial allowing selection of “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport Plus”, “RACE” and “Individual” drive programmes. Flanking the driving mode selector controller beneath the left-hand steering wheel spoke lies two vertically positioned colour display buttons with switches for fine tuning vehicle suspension and traction.

On track technology

With the AMG TRACK PACE virtual race engineer, drivers can record their lap times as well as more than 80 vehicle-specific sets of data recorded ten times per second while driving on closed-off race tracks. This data gathered by multiple sensors around vehicle (acceleration, gyroscope, steering angle, wheel speeds) and the in built GPS is logged to allow the driver to analyse their lap performance and make any needed changes to improve their driving skills on subsequent laps.

Exterior

The exterior has seen some subtle but noticeable refinements to the descerning eye which connect the AMG GT to the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé and definine the playfull yet aggressive look of the AMG GT family.

On the front, new LED high performance headlights with a tri-functional arched light guide which takes on the functions of daytime running light, navigation signal and turn signal. Mercedes’ new signature light flair seen on some of its most recent models like the new Mercedes A-Class and the new Mercedes CLS.

The multi-chamber reflector system with three single reflectors each for dipped beam and main beam not only ensures optimal illumination of the roadway, but also gives the AMG GT a sporty, dynamic look which gains even more optical depth as the result of the black background.

On the rear, the striking rear apron and sporty black diffuser are accompanied by a redesigned tail pipe cover to match the AMG GT 4-door and LED tail lights which also appear deeper set and sportier through the dark background.
